The trip

 The trip was spontaneous, beginning with three friends from Bahrain and later, a surprise addition—an old friend from Khobar, known for his mischievous nature. What started as a simple plan to visit Tarut Island, just after Dammam, turned into an unexpectedly memorable journey.






Despite the hot and humid weather, the desert landscape surprised us with patches of greenery, mangroves, and a picturesque seashore park. The journey was punctuated by delightful moments, with delicious food and tea adding rich flavors to our experience.


One of the highlights was the visit to a heritage village, which evoked a deep sense of nostalgia. Surrounded by memories of chalkboards, old stereos, vintage cameras, Hero pens, and the lifestyle of the 80s and 90s, we were transported back in time. It was a trip that blended history, friendship, and the simple joys of life in a way we hadn’t anticipated.

അനുഭവങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു കൂമ്പാരമാണ് സത്യത്തില്‍ ജീവിതം. തുടക്കവും ഒടുക്കവും എല്ലാവര്ക്കും അറിയാവുന്ന മറ്റൊരു സത്യം. കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ഇതാണെങ്കിലും ജീവിതം അത്രയ്ക്ക് സുഖകരമൊന്നുമായിരിക്കില്ല പലപ്പോഴും പലര്‍ക്കും.  പ്രവാസിയായി അവതാരമെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്കാണ് താരതമ്യേനെ കൂടുതല്‍ അനുഭവങ്ങള്‍. ആകെ പരിഭ്രാമിചിരിക്കുംബോഴാനു സ്കൂളില്‍ പഠിച്ചിരുന്ന ഏകദേശം പതിനഞ്ചു വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ശേഷമുള്ള സുഹൃത്തിനെ  ബഹറിനില്‍ ഉണ്ടെന്നു ഫേസ് ബുക്കില്‍ നിന്നും അറിയുന്നത്. തൊട്ടടുത്ത ദിവസം തന്നെ കാണാനും സാധിച്ചു. അവന്‍ വീണ്ടും സന്തോഷിപ്പിച്ചു, എന്നോടൊപ്പം പ്രീഡിഗ്രിക്ക് പഠിച്ച മറ്റൊരു സുഹൃത്ത് കൂടി ഇവിടുണ്ട് പോലും. പിന്നെ സൗദിയിലുള്ള സുഹൃത്ത് വഴി ഒന്ന് രണ്ടാളുകള്‍ കൂടി എത്തി.. ചുരുക്കത്തില്‍ പ്രവാസം ആദ്യം തന്നെ പ്രയാസമായില്ല. കുറച്ചു മാസത്തേക്കെങ്കിലും  ഭാര്യയെയും കുഞ്ഞിനെയും പിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കണമെന്നതാണ് വേദന. ഇപ്പോള്‍ കുബ്ബൂസുസുകളുടെയും കട്ടന്റെയും ലോകത്തെത്തിയത് പോലെ. മഗരിബിനു പള്ളിയില്‍ ഇന്ചിയിട്ട ചായയും കിട്ടുന്നുണ്ട്‌. പുതിയ കുറച്ചു പരിചയങ്ങളും എത്തി പിടിക്കാന്‍ സാധിച്ചു. കറുത്തവന്റെയും വെളുത്തവന്റ...

മാധ്യമങ്ങള്‍!

 മുമ്പ് സെക്കുലര്‍ എന്നു  വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന പല പത്രങ്ങളുടെയും സ്വഭാവം മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബാബ്റി മസ്ജിദ് പൊളിച്ച സ്ഥലത്താണ് ക്ഷേത്രം പണിയുന്നത് എന്ന്  എത്ര  മാധ്യമങ്ങള്‍ തുറന്നെഴുതി? ആരും വിമര്‍ശനത്തിന്  അതീതരല്ല. മാധ്യമസ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും (മാധ്യമപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരും) വിമര്‍ശിക്കപ്പെടുക തന്നെ വേണം മാധ്യമങ്ങള്‍ എന്നു പറയുമ്പോള്‍ മാധ്യമസ്ഥാപനം നടത്തുന്നതാര്, അതിന്റെ നിക്ഷിപ്ത താൽപര്യം എന്ത് എന്നൊക്കെ ആലോചിക്കേണ്ട അവസ്ഥയാണ് നിലവിലുള്ളത്. സ്ഥാപനം നടത്തുന്നത് രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാര്‍ട്ടികളായിരിക്കാം, മതസംഘടനകളായിരിക്കാം, കോര്‍പറേറ്റ് കമ്പനികളായിരിക്കാം. ഓരോന്നിനും അവരുടേതായ താൽപര്യങ്ങളുണ്ടായിരിക്കും   പരസ്യക്കാര്‍ പണം നല്‍കി പരസ്യം  കൊടുക്കും. അവ പ്രസീദ്ധീകരിക്കുമ്പോഴും മാധ്യമങ്ങള്‍ എഡിറ്റോറിയല്‍  സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം നിലനിര്‍ത്തിയിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ 1970 കള്‍ മുതല്‍ ആ ബന്ധത്തിന്റെ സ്വഭാവത്തില്‍ മാറ്റം വന്നുതുടങ്ങി. പരസ്യക്കാര്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ പിടിമുറുക്കിത്തുടങ്ങി. നിങ്ങള്‍ ഇന്ന വാര്‍ത്ത ഇന്ന രീതിയില്‍ കൊടുത്തില്ലെങ്കില്‍ ഞങ്ങള്‍ പരസ്യം തരില്ല എന്ന നിലപാട്.  പിന്നീട്...

Dragon fruit

During my vacation, I was excited to spend time with my younger daughter, who is known for her naughtiness. True to her nature, she was very playful but also prone to crying over small things, sometimes for no apparent reason. I suspected she might feel like she wasn't getting enough attention. One day, I had to leave her at her grandpa's house due to an emergency. She continued her usual solitary games, running around the house. Later, she called me, crying and screaming because she accidentally knocked off a flower that her grandma had been carefully nurturing, hoping it would bear dragon fruit.
